When we experience disappointment in life, it can be easy to lose hope. Scripture tells us that the pain of a hope deferred can feel like heartbreak. In His word, He also promises to fill us with hope.
How can we be filled with hope in the face of a hopeless situation? – 2 Corinthians 10:5.
We must realize that we can take control of our thought life and redirect our thoughts away from our disappointments and toward those things that we can be thankful for- the good things He has given us. Let God instruct your mind to win the battle because he always knows what you need to do to walk in victory. You should take every bad, unpleasant thought captive as the Bible instructs and not allow it to stay in your mind. Remember to trust that the Holy Spirit is working on your behalf to help you. If you keep allowing these thoughts to stay, they can become a reality in your life and/or be a stronghold. You will start believing them.
Be diligent and put only good things in your mind. It’s good to watch only TV shows that are wholesome, listen to worship music in the car. Always keep good in mind- Proverbs 4:23. The heart is the center of a person’s thoughts and feelings. If it is not guarded, the heart is open to dangerous attitudes and actions. The phrase “above all else” is not as a suggestion, but an imperative command meaning “by reason of, the whole of, totality, everything.” It is the priority, to be pursued with diligence. What is the priority? Guarding your heart. Protecting it from harmful influences, but also guarding it from allowing bitterness and unforgiveness to take hold. Capturing thoughts is a serious business. God has promised to never abandon us. His plans for our lives are still good. When that person walked out of your life, God witnessed it, and He will come through for you.
God wants to restore your hope. No situation is hopeless, because God is our hope. If you are afraid to hope again or are weary in the waiting, put your hope in Christ and you will find a hope that does not disappoint. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus Christ has won the ultimate victory over the sin and death for us. Colossians 2:14-15, Romans 6:9, 1 John 5:4 – Because of Him, we have the promise of eternal life (1 John 2:25)
The anchor has been a symbol of hope among Christians since the days of the early church. The anchor metaphor emphasizes the stability and safety of Christ as our hope. The writer describes this hope as an anchor that is “firm and secure” (NIV), “sure and steadfast” (ESV), “strong and trustworthy” (NLT). A ship’s anchor allows the vessel to remain fixed and unmoving regardless of the conditions at sea. Our faith in Jesus Christ keeps us from becoming “like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind”- James1:6.
